Served as the number two person for Kansas City’s 900,000 square foot Union Station, a historical landmark, the position managed two museum directors which encompassed Science City, the Kansas City Museum at Corinthian Hall, The City Extreme Screen, Planetarium, exhibitions with in Union Station such as the Rail Experience, as well as the collection holdings of all entities. Activities through mid-2007 revolved around the re-accreditation progress, best practices and policy development for all operations and bolstered the interpretative strategies of the institution. The annual operating budget was approximately $10,000,000 with a staff of 154. Services were performed by commuting from Atlanta to Kansas City on a regular basis. Appointed by the Attorney General of the State of Missouri to the Board of the Kansas City Black Archives to help stabilize the non-profit organization.

Accomplishments:

  • Strategic evaluation of museum related activities with an eye towards innovation, partnerships, and collection building, with the ultimate goal of moving actively towards institutional and financial stability.
  • Reinvigorated the regional funding community with a greater understanding of the renewed vision as a priority
  • Negotiated the loan of a selection of Dead Sea Scrolls (Israel) for major exhibition in 2006; developed concepts for educational initiative and future major exhibitions
  • Fostered the continued stewardship and partnership between the City of Kansas, MO and USKC for the care of the historic house museum (Corinthian Hall)
  • Built community relationship across the region
